Victoria Island Farms carefully handles every step in the growing, harvesting, packaging, and shipping of our fresh blueberries and asparagus. Our trusted staff performs all these phases right here on the island to ensure that the Victoria Island products that reach you are the freshest and the very best in terms of food safety.
Safe Agricultural Practices
Victoria Island Farms enlists Integrated Pest Management techniques to reduce pesticide usage to an absolute minimum. We avoid insect build-up by routinely rotating crops. When we do apply pest materials, we only use those registered by the USEPA under the guidance of Licensed Pest Control Advisors. Under our pre-harvest sampling program, we lab-test our produce for pesticide residues. We aim for zero discernable pesticide residues.
Continuous Inspection and Auditing
We operate our packing and shipping facilities in strict accordance with the FDA and USDA guidelines. Our Good Agricultural Practices program ensures that our employees have a safe and clean working environment. We conduct food handling and safety training for our employees on a routine basis. Our manager and supervisors regularly audit our farming, harvesting, and cooling operations to ensure they meet Good Agricultural Practices standards.
Victoria Island Farms continually tests the soil as well as the water used for irrigation, product rinsing, and cooling to ensure that they do not contain heavy metals, harmful bacteria, or pesticide residues. We always pre-harvest samples of each crop to be sent to a state-certified laboratory for pesticide analysis.
Along with our internal audit programs, Victoria Island Farms regularly enlists reliable, third party auditors to inspect our equipment maintenance and safety procedures, along with the harvesting, cooling, and shipping operations.
